How does Samsung Vietnam take care of its employees?

During the 10-year journey in Vietnam, Samsung has become a home for hundreds of thousands of employees, and we offer all of them food, rest, transport and education.

In 2017 and 2018, Samsung received certificates of merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs for its outstanding welfare policies, at the same time, ensuring the legitimate benefits of employees.

Let's review what the South Korean giant does for its employees:

Free employee shuttle bus:

Samsung Vietnam owns a bus system with nearly 1,000 buses responsible for employees’ commutes every day within a 60km radius around the manufactory. All buses are equipped with high quality furniture and seatbelts to ensure safety for employees.

Samsung Vietnam also cares about employees’ safety on the roads, especially for those who drive motorcycles, so we have promoted a safety campaign across the company. The "Motorcycle safety experience room" is inside the manufactory in order to train employees about safety skills on the road.

Dormitories for employees

Dormitories for employees have been built inside the manufactories, providing room for more than 30,000 employees with high-class facilities and amenities rarely found at other manufacturing enterprises. The dorms are not only a place to rest for employees after work, but also a place to enjoy entertainment and use the cinema, gym, canteen, supermarket, library and hair salon, etc.

Free nutritious meals during working hours

Samsung's catering system includes 7 restaurants with nearly 1,000 cooks, serving about 120,000 meals/day. The menu is varied with plentiful choices for employees. The kitchens are equipped with imported materials to ensure food hygiene and safety via sampling and testing procedures conducted by the Safety Department.

Specially designed meals for pregnant employees

At Samsung, pregnant employees are seated in specifically-designed seats for their working comfort and for fetus development.

22 “mommy rooms” have been built for pregnant/lactating employees with private areas to feed their babies and store milk, with lockers, resting areas, books and information about raising a baby.

In addition, we provide free meals for pregnant women. There are 2 specially designed meals per week for pregnant women.

Employees are allowed to take 50% of their salary during the first months of maternity leave.

Health care for employees

Daily health care for employees

For employees’ daily health, Samsung Vietnam has built medical center equipped with modern facilities similar to an international hospital.

The medical center has 106 beds; 5 general clinics; 3 obstetrics clinics; 4 health counseling rooms, 1 physical therapy room, an operating room, emergency room and quarantine area. They are equipped with modern endoscopic, orthopedic, high frequency treatment and ultrasound technology, etc. Besides, there are 20 experienced doctors and 57 nurses.

Medical center’s functions:
Free examination and treatment for all employees and vendors.
Issue certificates of leave covered by social insurance, referred to as GCN2.
Issue monitoring books and necessary information for pregnant employees
Providing free supplements (iron, calcium, multivitamins...) for pregnant employees with health problems (anemia, calcium deficiency).

Specifically, with over 75% of employees being female, regular reproductive health checks are essential. As a result, Samsung Vietnam also invites obstetricians to work in the medical room to examine, prescribe and dispense ultrasound drugs, gynecological exams, etc.

Periodic health check program

To ensure employee health, every year, Samsung cooperates with famous hospitals to organize annual health examinations.

In addition, with the desire to provide their employees with a modern and well-equipped health center, as well as to enhance health care service for employees, Samsung Vietnam has established a brand new, modern and comfortable health center. It is considered the best and biggest of its kind in Vietnam.

The center is open from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 5pm, performing periodic health checks, special examinations and pre-employment testing.

Reproductive health education and consultancy

Regular counseling for pregnant employees is also available from Samsung’s consultants in collaboration with experts from Bach Mai Hospital to help equip employees with knowledge about reproduction, nutrition and immunization. Mental health care is also available with useful tips to overcome difficulties and mental-related issues. In June 2018, Samsung Vietnam opened its Obstetrics Clinic which is responsible for examinations, ultrasounds, and reproductive counseling for pregnant and parenting employees, performed by hospital doctors and nurses from the pediatrics hospitals of Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen. These services have had positive impacts on employees, as most of them are young and lacking basic knowledge of reproductive health.

Diverse clubs

In order to provide a diverse spiritual life for employees as well as create an opportunity for employees to pursue their talents after work, Samsung Vietnam has invested in building more than 70 clubs for employees with free membership for singing, dancing, music, martial arts, table tennis and football clubs, etc.

Clubs are have trainers and fully-equipped rooms to operate independently.

GWP (Great Work Place) activities

Samsung always strives to create the ideal working environment for its employees by organizing different activities

- Family day

Every quarter, excellent employees’ parents are invited to visit the company, manufactory and enjoy a meal as part of a 2-day-1-night tour at famous tourist destinations such as Ha Long, Bai Dinh and Trang An, etc. Via the program, the employees’ parents gain a better insight into their children’s workplace. The program also represents Samsung’s gratitude for parents who raised and nurtured Samsung’s employees.

On average, 3,500 employees’ families are invited to this program annually.

- Festival Day (Year-end Festival)

The program is held at the end of the year with a music contest, beauty pageant and sports competition to create opportunities for employees to connect and learn from each other, which also doubles as a team-building exercise. Employees can invite their families to take part in various activities and visit the company.

- GWP travel program

Once a year, Samsung employees can take advantage of the company’s travel program. The program provides transport for various locations (2 days 1 night, or 1 day). The travel program is organized all year round, so depending on their work schedules, each department can organize a tour at any time.
