On January 13, 2017, the official Fansipan flagpole was unveiled in a special ceremony held with the late Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang in attendance.

The 25-metre tall flagpole was constructed right at the peak of the mountain at an altitude of 3,141 metres. The flagpole symbolising Vietnamese pride with all four sides of the bluestone flagpole engraved with the country’s most iconic famous landscapes in the north-west region, Central Highlands and Ha Long Bay.

Since then, every weekend, there has been a special flag-raising ceremony held on top of the mountain as part of the Sun World Fansipan Legend’s cultural activities aimed at showcasing Vietnamese spirit and celebrating the wonder of Fansipan, the so-called ‘roof of Indochina’.

This flagpole has already become an architectural symbol of the country. In the two years since its inauguration, tens of thousands of people and visitors have now witnessed the flag being unfurled in the ceremony and hoisted up into the air, high above the Hoang Lien mountain range and Sa Pa, the gateway town to Vietnam’s mountainous north.

The flag-raising ceremony, held at 10.30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, is conducted by the officers of the Security Division of Sun World Fansipan Legend. After this ceremony, the National Flag of Vietnam remains hoisted in the air, proudly flapping in the strong mountain breeze.

The Flagpole at Fansipan Summit is located in the Fansipan Legend tourism area in Sa Pa district, Lao Cai province.

With the Fansipan Cable Car connecting the town of Sapa to the summit of Fansipan, more Vietnamese and international tourists than ever before are travelling to the northwest to experience standing on the country’s highest peak. In recent years, Fansipan has grown in its identity as one of Vietnam’s most prominent national symbols and is now known all around the world. It is with great pride that Vietnamese standing on the summit of Fansipan now see their national flag flying high on this mountaintop, where visitors from all over the world now come to savour the magnificent views.
